It’s been almost 20 years since the release of The Fifth Element, writer-director Luc Besson’s delightfully garish, unapologetically maximalist space-jam—and the film that proved that, in space, everyone can hear Chris Tucker scream. Next year, Besson returns to big, noisy sci-fi with Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the first trailer for which you can watch above.

Based on the  long-running French comic book series Valérian and Laureline, the movie stars Chronicle‘s Dane DeHaan and Suicide Squad‘s Cara Delevingne as galactic operatives with a complicated relationship (“We get on just great—you flirt, I smile,” Delevingne says at one point, before delivering a brutal sucker-punch). And because this is a Besson flick, we also get all kinds of oooh-inducing visuals, from neon-glazed cityscapes, to gorgeously gargantuan aliens, to Rihanna getting all Fosse-fied in a Sally Bowles-inspired get-up.

Will any of this make sense? Who knows! But we’ll be ready to get our Bess-on when Valerian opens in July.
