Finally got around to reading this (http://www.amazon.com/Comeback-America-Turning-Restoring-Responsibility/dp/1400068606), and I'm tempted to lament the inaccurate title - it should be something more like Bye-bye, America. It's a mix of hard-head realism about the nature and extent of our countries major problems, at the level of the federal government, coupled with policy recommendations - some sensible, some insensible, but all completely inaccessible given the current political landscape. I'm increasingly of the opinion that the only path to fixing these problems will be the failure of a US government bond auction, and some form of forced austerity that will come far too late for it to be easily handled. The impact on average Americans will likely be very painful - the wealthy, at least those with investable assets adequately diversified outside of the US - will probably suffer relatively little...
